Alan Pardew expressed his surprise at Kieran Trippier’s subpar performance against Tottenham, where Newcastle United suffered a 4-1 defeat. Pardew criticized Trippier, attributing his struggles to fatigue from an extended period of continuous play. On talkSPORT post-match, Pardew emphasized Trippier’s need for rest to return to his usual level of play.

Despite acknowledging Trippier’s overall reliability and leadership, Pardew highlighted that the last two games did not meet his usual standards. Trippier’s difficulty in handling Tottenham’s attack, especially against Heung-Min Son, was evident. Pardew mentioned a specific incident where Trippier’s defensive lapse led to Tottenham’s second goal, with Son assisting Richarlison.

Pardew praised Son’s performance but noted Trippier appeared fatigued, making him vulnerable on the field. Trippier’s suspension due to a yellow card against Tottenham may benefit Newcastle in the long run, providing him with a much-needed break amid the team’s injury crisis. Although his absence is a setback, it offers a chance for players like Lewis Hall to showcase their abilities in the upcoming game against Fulham and gain valuable experience before the Carabao Cup quarter-final against Chelsea.
