Dan Ashworth set for Newcastle exit as he lands new appointment with Top premier League club

Sir Dave Brailsford has dream Man Utd appointment in mind

Manchester United is on the lookout for a new sporting director, and Ineos is still aiming to secure the services of Newcastle United’s Dan Ashworth for Old Trafford. As Christmas approaches, United fans eagerly await a much-anticipated gift, with Sir Jim Ratcliffe finalizing his investment in Manchester United. Although Ratcliffe is set to acquire 25% of the club, he is expected to take control of football operations at Old Trafford.

Sir Dave Brailsford, a close ally of Ratcliffe and current director of sport for Ineos, is likely to play a significant role at United. Having visited Carrington last month, Brailsford hasn’t abandoned hope of bringing in Dan Ashworth from Newcastle United. The former cycling guru will influence Ratcliffe’s plan, which involves the appointment of a new sporting director. While Paul Mitchell is a top target, Brailsford has his sights on Ashworth, whom iNews reports as the dream appointment for United. Brailsford and Ashworth are described as ‘long-standing’ friends, potentially leveraging their personal connection.

Despite Newcastle’s efforts to retain Ashworth, who is reportedly content at St James’ Park, United remains optimistic. Pursuing Ashworth would mark an ambitious beginning to the Ratcliffe era at Old Trafford. Ashworth, highly regarded in football circles, previously served as the director of elite development for The FA before becoming the technical director at Brighton and Hove Albion in 2018. He played a pivotal role in shaping Brighton’s recruitment excellence. Since joining Newcastle United in 2022, Ashworth has facilitated the signings of players like Sven Botman, Alexander Isak, and Anthony Gordon.

Gary Neville recently praised Ashworth on Twitter, highlighting his competence, high qualifications, and knowledge. United sees Ashworth as the ideal addition to bring coherence to the club’s off-field business. However, whether Brailsford can entice him away from Newcastle remains uncertain.
