Dallas Cowboys set to Sign another NFL star after seven-year hiatus
‘Man, I loved that locker room! Should the Cowboys re-sign Rolando McClain? Dallas’ Reaction, According to an NFL Source.
FRISCO, TX – Rolando McClain, the gifted but troubled former Dallas Cowboys and NFL star, learned this week that NFL commissioner Roger Goodell is lifting the league’s ban of the former Dallas Cowboys and NFL star after a seven-year absence.
“I’m still’me’ in every way; I laugh (at the skepticism),” McClain said in an exclusive interview with CowboysSI.com on his desire to return to the NFL at the age of 34. “I’m ready for the NFL right now.” It’s like riding a bike! Football is a way of life. ”I enjoy the game.”
McClain, who hasn’t played in an NFL game since Jan. 3, 2016, is a free agent who can join with any team.
Are the Cowboys on that list?
According to a CowboysSI.com source, Dallas is not interested in reuniting with McClain, who was a Dallas roster member in 2016 when he was suspended again by the NFL for violating the league’s Program and Policy for Substances of Abuse.
McClain played with the Cowboys in 2014 and 2015, but they released him in 2019.
McClain, who has been on an aggressive five-year regimen that has involved not only physical work but also therapy with NFL-sanctioned doctors and psychiatrists, told CowboysSI.com that he remembers his time with the Cowboys fondly.
“I loved that locker room, man,” McClain remarked.
McClain was taken eighth overall in the 2010 NFL Draft by the Oakland Raiders. He had a great start there before his conduct troubles derailed him. McClain was arrested three times between December 1, 2011, and April 21, 2013, and announced his retirement before the start of the 2013 season.
McClain, on the other hand, returned from a one-year retirement to join the Cowboys, who won the NFC East in 2014 and their first playoff victory since 2009 with McClain as their play-making middle linebacker.
Is he capable of doing it again? McClain hopes to hear from NFL teams, but it appears that the Dallas Cowboys will not be among them.
