MITCH GARVER INKS A $24M, TWO-YEAR DEAL WITH SEATTLE MARINERS
In a groundbreaking move that has generated significant excitement among fans, the Seattle Mariners have officially announced a two-year contract valued at $24 million with Mitch Garver. This deal is part of the Mariners’ proactive approach in the off-season, indicating a strong determination to contend for the postseason.
Garver, who played a crucial role in the Texas Rangers’ recent World Series victory, had an exceptional season. In 344 plate appearances as a part-time player, handling duties as a catcher and designated hitter, he showcased his skills by posting a .270/.370/.500 batting line with 19 home runs and 50 RBIs.
His outstanding performance was instrumental in the Rangers’ success, and the Mariners are optimistic that Garver will bring the same impact to their team. The signing of Garver follows the Mariners’ off-season trades involving starting third baseman Eugenio Suarez and left outfielder Jarred Kelenic, creating an opportunity for Garver to serve as a backup for the Mariners’ starting catcher, Cal Raleigh.
The acquisition of Garver underscores Seattle’s commitment to strengthening their lineup with his impressive batting abilities, as evidenced by his weighted on-base performance ranking among the top 90th percentile for all hitters last year.

While much attention has been focused on the remarkable achievements of players like Corey Seager and Adolis Garcia during Texas’ league championship victory, Garver quietly made significant contributions. His standout moments include a pivotal performance in Game 2 of the American League Division Series against the Baltimore Orioles, where he contributed five runs, including a grand slam, showcasing his capability in high-pressure situations.
Garver continued to elevate his game in the AL Championship Series Game 6 against the Houston Astros, delivering three hits and a home run. His impact extended to Game 7, where he scored a run and demonstrated strong hitting. The culmination of his exceptional season was marked by a home run in the World Series against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Turning 33 in January, Garver brings seven years of experience in the major leagues, with five of those years spent with the Minnesota Twins before being traded to the Texas Rangers. His noteworthy career includes contributing to the Twins’ record-breaking 307 home runs in a single season in 2019, where he hit 31 home runs in 359 plate appearances, earning him a Silver Slugger Award. While primarily a catcher during his time with the Twins, Garver adapted his role to serve as a backup catcher with the Rangers, showcasing versatility by also playing as a designated hitter in 2022 and 2023 and making appearances as a first baseman last season.
