A German media report has disclosed details about Michael Schumacher’s rehabilitation, revealing that part of his recovery involves being chauffeured in a Mercedes-AMG road car. December 29th marks the 10th anniversary of the tragic skiing accident that led to life-altering injuries for the seven-time F1 World Champion.
Since returning home in 2014 for ongoing rehabilitation, the Schumacher family has maintained a strict privacy stance, divulging minimal information about Michael’s health and well-being. German publication BILD is running a series of articles to commemorate the accident’s anniversary, shedding light on certain aspects of Schumacher’s rehabilitation.
The initial article outlined known facts about the skiing incident and unveiled previously undisclosed details about his recovery efforts. According to the report, Schumacher receives round-the-clock care at home, with a private infirmary set up in his former office and a daily care team consisting of up to 15 doctors and assistants.
BILD also disclosed that Schumacher has been exposed to recorded pit radio communications from his Formula 1 days and is taken on drives in a powerful Mercedes-AMG road car to stimulate his brain with familiar sounds from his racing career.
Recently, Jean Todt, Schumacher’s former Ferrari team boss and the ex-FIA President, provided insights in an interview with French publication L’Equipe. Todt, a family friend permitted to visit Schumacher, highlighted the privilege of sharing moments with him, acknowledging the profound impact of the accident a decade ago on Michael’s life, transforming him from the F1 icon he once was.
