Dr. Bennet Omalu, the renowned pathologist known for discovering Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy in former NFL players, has recommended that Browns star Elijah Moore consider retiring following a severe head injury during a game. Moore, who was discharged from the hospital after experiencing involuntary twitching on the field, was diagnosed with a concussion and ruled out of the recent game against the Jets.
Omalu, portrayed in the movie ‘Concussion’ by Will Smith, expressed his concern, stating that Moore’s on-field convulsions indicated a seizure, which is a manifestation of permanent brain damage. Advising retirement, Omalu emphasized the severity of the injury and suggested that, at the very least, Moore should sit out the remainder of the season, which has the Browns poised for a Super Bowl run.
Despite the team’s recent victory securing a playoff spot, Omalu believes Moore should take a break of at least three months due to the potential long-term effects of the head injury. Moore, who contributed with an eight-yard touchdown earlier in the game, has had a productive season with 59 receptions for 640 yards and two touchdowns.
With the regular season’s final game approaching in 10 days against the Cincinnati Bengals and the playoffs beginning on January 13, the decision on Moore’s future in the sport hangs in the balance.
