Following the recent trade of OG Anunoby to the Knicks by the Raptors, speculation is mounting in the NBA community about the potential trade of Raptors forward Pascal Siakam. The Atlanta Hawks have consistently been linked to Siakam since last summer, with other interested teams including the Dallas Mavericks, Indiana Pacers, Memphis Grizzlies, and Sacramento Kings.

Notably, NBA insider Marc Stein suggests that Siakam, if traded, would prefer to enter unrestricted free agency rather than immediately re-sign with the acquiring team, adding an element of risk for any potential trade partner. Stein highlights that the Atlanta Hawks, with their size issues, could benefit from Siakam’s presence as a playmaker. However, caution is warranted, as the Hawks lack substantial assets due to the trade for Dejounte Murray from the Spurs.

While Siakam could enhance the Hawks and potentially propel them to the playoffs, his addition alone may not transform them into championship contenders. The decision to trade for Siakam hinges on the Hawks’ confidence in re-signing him, as sacrificing assets without securing a long-term commitment could be detrimental.

A proposed three-team trade involving the Lakers, Hawks, and Raptors has been suggested by Bleacher Report’s Andy Bailey. In this scenario, the Lakers receive Dejounte Murray and Garrett Temple, the Hawks acquire Pascal Siakam, Dennis Schröder, and Max Christie, while the Raptors obtain D’Angelo Russell, De’Andre Hunter, Taurean Prince, and future draft picks.

This multi-team trade is seen as a more favorable option for the Hawks than a direct deal with the Lakers. It allows the Hawks to acquire Siakam, bring back Schroder, and secure a promising defensive prospect in Max Christie. The Lakers gain their third star in Murray, while the Raptors receive multiple assets, including young talent and future draft picks. Questions remain about Schroder’s role in the Hawks’ starting lineup, with suggestions that he may be better suited coming off the bench, and Bogdanovic starting instead.
