Exclusive: Pascal Siakam speaks after Kings top Raptors with trade rumors swirling in Sacramento

The trade discussions regarding Pascal Siakam added suspense to the Kings’ game against the Toronto Raptors in Sacramento. Despite previous connections between the Kings and Siakam, heightened speculation surrounded the trade talks as the Raptors arrived in Sacramento, with four weeks remaining until the NBA trade deadline on Feb. 8. Siakam, however, appeared unaffected by the swirling trade rumors, stating that he focuses solely on playing basketball and leaves trade-related matters to those handling them for him.

Siakam commended the Kings’ team assembled by General Manager Monte McNair after their victory against the Raptors. Sacramento’s impressive performance included Domantas Sabonis achieving another triple-double, securing a 135-130 win. Siakam acknowledged the Kings’ strengths, praising their fast-paced and well-shooting team.

In terms of trade rumors, reports circulated throughout the day, with the Kings identified as a serious suitor for Siakam. Coach Mike Brown addressed the challenge of keeping players focused amidst trade speculations, acknowledging the inevitability of rumors during the trade deadline period.

While Siakam had a solid performance in the game, scoring 18 points and contributing in various aspects, trade talks involving him took a turn. Shams Charania reported that the Kings decided to withdraw from the Siakam talks, bringing an end to discussions between the two teams. Despite these developments, Siakam maintained his focus on the game and expressed a lack of awareness regarding the trade-related notifications.

Siakam’s potential move is complicated by his contract status, as he is in the final year of a substantial deal. He will become an unrestricted free agent in the summer, making his value in the trade market contingent on his willingness to re-sign with the acquiring team. Siakam, however, emphasized his day-by-day approach, focusing on playing basketball and improving.

The Kings dominated the game against the Raptors, building a substantial lead by halftime. Although the Raptors made a comeback in the second half, the Kings secured the win. Keegan Murray’s strong performance, particularly in rebounding, was highlighted by Coach Brown. Additionally, there was news of the Kings planning to waive forward Juan Toscano-Anderson, opening up a roster spot.

Looking ahead, the Kings will face the New Orleans Pelicans in their next game, concluding a four-game homestand. Despite the Pelicans posing challenges for the Kings in previous matchups, they aim to bounce back and secure a win in their upcoming game.
