LSU DL Maason Smith Declares For 2024 NFL Draft
Smith bids farewell to Baton Rouge after completing three seasons, marking the conclusion of his college football journey and setting the stage for the next chapter. LSU defensive tackle Maason Smith has officially announced his entry into the 2024 NFL Draft, wrapping up a three-season tenure in Baton Rouge.
Hailing from Louisiana as a former five-star prospect, Smith concludes his LSU career, which includes overcoming a setback in the form of a torn ACL that sidelined him for the entire 2022 season. Despite this challenge, he returned in 2023, showcasing his skills with 28 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, and two pass breakups in 12 games.
Before the season commenced, Smith shared with the media the ups and downs of his journey to regain full strength, emphasizing the recent positive trajectory in his recovery. He expressed confidence in being prepared for the challenges ahead, crediting Coach Jenkins for imparting valuable techniques and guidance.
Smith, recognized as a 2021 Freshman All-American, made a notable impact with 19 tackles, 5.0 tackles for loss, and 4.0 sacks in nine games during his debut season. Joining LSU defensive linemen Mekhi Wingo and Jordan Jefferson in declaring for the 2024 NFL Draft, Smith takes the next step in his football career.
Wingo, a key player in LSU’s defensive line, had a standout two-year stint in Baton Rouge, culminating in his decision to enter the NFL Draft. Beginning his college journey at Missouri and transferring to LSU in 2022, he earned Second Team All-SEC honors and the prestigious No. 18 jersey during his second season in Death Valley. Wingo’s impactful performance included a crucial role in the Tigers’ 35-31 victory over Wisconsin in the ReliaQuest Bowl.
With a history of impressive stats, both at Missouri and LSU, Wingo now transitions to the NFL Draft after leaving a lasting mark on the college football scene.
