The Milwaukee Brewers 2024 international signing class is continuing to take shape. The highest-ranked additions are shortstops Jorge Quintana and Jesus Made, followed by a mix of fun and unusual skill. One prospect that they signed is actually the cousin of a current pitcher with the Brew Crew and that pitcher has the ability to be in competition for the Cy Young award.

Christopher Peralta, cousin to Freddy Peralta, has signed with the Milwaukee Brewers during the international signing period.

In 2013, Freddy Peralta signed with the Seattle Mariners as an international prospect, hailing from the Dominican Republic. However, he didn’t join the Brewers until 2015, being part of the trade that sent Adam Lind to the Mariners.

Following his noteworthy MLB debut with the Brewers in 2018, Freddy Peralta secured a spot on the major league roster. Over the next few years, he alternated between roles as a starter and a reliever. Prior to the 2020 season, he inked a contract worth $15.5 million over five years.

In 2021, Peralta delivered his best statistical performance, boasting a 2.81 ERA and holding hitters to a .165 batting average. Unfortunately, despite his impressive numbers, he fell short of qualifying for the Cy Young award due to insufficient innings pitched.

Looking forward to 2024, Freddy Peralta will have the added benefit of having his cousin Christopher join the organization. Although Christopher is in the early stages of his baseball career, his connection to the established MLB pitcher should prove advantageous as he embarks on the journey of becoming a professional athlete.
