Philadelphia Eagles All-Pro center Jason Kelce has responded to retirement speculation following reports that the Super Bowl champion informed his teammates of his decision to retire. In the latest episode of his podcast “New Heights,” co-hosted with his younger brother, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, the 36-year-old emphasized that now is not the appropriate moment to fully commit to that decision.

Kelce expressed uncertainty about the upcoming year, considering factors like coaches and players. He stressed his love, respect, and appreciation for the team’s effort and energy during the season, acknowledging that the outcome in Philadelphia was not acceptable. Despite having the opportunity from coach Nick Sirianni to discuss his plans for the next NFL season, Kelce intentionally refrained from making any announcements.

He explained that the emotional aftermath of a game like that one isn’t the right time to make such a significant decision. Kelce stated that he is not trying to be dramatic or prolong the situation but intends to announce his plans definitively and respectfully at the appropriate time. He emphasized the need to pay respect to individuals who have played a crucial role in his career.

Kelce did address his teammates after the disappointing loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, expressing belief in each of them and encouraging them to cherish their moments in the league. Regarding retirement rumors, the podcast assured fans that they will hear about Kelce’s retirement directly from him when the timing is appropriate.

Jason Kelce: Philadelphia Eagles center retires after 13 NFL seasons

Rumors surrounding Mr. Kelce’s retirement began circulating following ESPN’s Adam Schefter’s announcement on X, stating that the potential future Hall of Famer informed his teammates about his decision to retire after the team’s season-ending loss. Philadelphia Eagles right tackle Lane Johnson also mentioned to reporters that Mr. Kelce had “hinted” to teammates about this being his final season, expressing admiration for his exceptional skills on the football field and emphasizing that he is among the best to ever play the game.

The news was further confirmed by The Associated Press, relying on information from three anonymous sources. Mr. Kelce, who has been indecisive about retirement in recent seasons, holds the distinction of being the fifth center in NFL history with at least six All-Pro selections, joining the esteemed company of Hall of Famers Jim Otto, Bulldog Turner, Dermontti Dawson, and Jim Ringo.

Since his selection as a sixth-round pick in the 2011 draft from Cincinnati, Mr. Kelce has been a steadfast presence on the offensive line. Despite facing challenges, such as a significant injury in the 2012 season, he evolved into an Iron Man. Beyond his football achievements, Mr. Kelce has ventured into other realms, co-hosting a podcast, being the subject of the “Kelce” documentary, and even earning recognition as one of People Magazine’s “Sexiest Men Alive” for 2023, alongside notable figures like Timothée Chalamet, Lenny Kravitz, and Jamie Foxx.
