Newcastle United are considering making a summer move for £150m world class attacker

NEWCASTLE UPON TYNE, ENGLAND - MARCH 04: Newcastle United Head Coach Eddie Howe speaks to the media in the first face to face press conference since the Covid Pandemic began at the Newcastle United Training Centre on March 04, 2022 in Newcastle upon Tyne, England.

Despite having signed a new contract with Milan last summer, which incorporates a release clause of €175 million (£150 million), ongoing rumors suggest that the Portuguese international, Leao, may be considering a departure from the San Siro team.

Leao, aged 24, has faced challenges in his Serie A performances, despite a standout display in Milan’s 2-1 victory over Newcastle United this season, resulting in the Magpies being eliminated from Europe.

According to Telefoot, Newcastle remains interested in Leao, and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) is also keen on securing his signature this summer, despite the winger’s previous stint with LOSC Lille.

Leao seems to have reached the pinnacle of his performance at Milan and is actively seeking a new challenge, with the Premier League appearing to be an enticing prospect for the Serie A attacker.

While the idea of Newcastle winning the battle to sign Leao may be challenging to envision given their current position in the Premier League and financial constraints, the scenario would change if money were not a limiting factor. Newcastle’s PIF owners would then have the freedom to pursue players without financial constraints, making Leao a feasible addition. However, the club must exercise caution in their spending and ensure a balanced financial approach.

To navigate their financial situation, Newcastle might need to consider selling one of their key assets, with recent rumors consistently linking Bruno Guimaraes to a potential move away from the club.
