Burnley is nearing the completion of a deal for Maxime Estève from Montpellier as the winter transfer market progresses. According to information from Foot Mercato journalist Santi Aouna, who shared updates on X (formerly known as Twitter), the 21-year-old is en route to Manchester to finalize the formalities for a permanent move to the Premier League club. Aouna notes that a Burnley medical appointment for the center-back has been scheduled for today. Earlier in the week, Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri mentioned that the Clarets have reached an agreement with the Ligue 1 side for the defender’s transfer, although specific financial details were not disclosed.
Previously, reports indicated that Burnley had agreed to the €12 million fee demanded for the center-back but were attempting to defer the payments, causing dissatisfaction from the French club. Two days ago, Foot Mercato disclosed that Montpellier preferred a significant portion of the €12 million upfront, leading Vincent Kompany’s side to present a new offer to resolve the impasse. The transfer details have now been settled between the two clubs, prompting the player to travel to England for his medical with Burnley. Estève, who has featured in 13 matches this season, has contributed a goal and an assist during this period.
