Marcus West named new defensive line coach of Buffalo Bills - Buffalo Rumblings

Following the Buffalo Bills’ 2023 NFL season, the Chicago Bears hired associate head coach and defensive lineman Eric Washington to take over as defensive coordinator. This implied that Sean McDermott, the head coach of the Bills, would have to appoint a new defensive line coach.

Marcus West was formally announced as the Buffalo Bills’ next defensive line coach on Friday, February 2. West was promoted after joining One Bills Drive in 2022 as an assistant defensive line coach.

In addition to his expertise as a former defensive lineman in the NFL, NFL Europe, and CFL, West joined the ranks of football coaches in 2008.

Marcus West - Defensive Line

In 2006, Marcus West started playing football professionally with the Indianapolis Colts. After spending one season in the NFL, West moved to 2007 and played for the Amsterdam Admirals of NFL Europe before joining the CFL’s Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

Following two years in the professional ranks, West made the switch to coaching, beginning as the defensive line coach at Wartburg College (2008). The next year, West accepted a post as defensive line coach at the University of Tennessee in Chattanooga, which he would keep for seven seasons (2009-2015).

After leaving Tennessee, West agreed to serve as Austin Peay State University’s associate head coach, co-defensive coordinator, and defensive line coach for two seasons (2016–2017) in a multi-disciplinary capacity.

We should take a close look at the 49ers’ desperate need for another game-winning play.

The date is January 14, 2012. We are in San Francisco at Candlestick Park. The 49ers need a touchdown with 14 seconds remaining, down three, and facing a third down to maintain their hopes of making the playoffs without having to go to OT. In the meanwhile, the Saints may draw a conclusion from this and move on to the NFC Championship Game. We need to look back in time to comprehend how we got here and to fully appreciate what this moment signifies.

The University of Minnesota then recruited West to serve as their defensive line pass rush specialist for the Golden Gophers (2018). As associate head coach, co-defensive coordinator, and defensive line coach at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, West made one last appearance in the collegiate levels (2019–2021).

Prior to the 2022 NFL season, Marcus West was hired by head coach Sean McDermott to serve as the team’s assistant defensive line coach. This was his first experience coaching in the NFL. Over the course of the team’s two prior campaigns, he collaborated with Eric Washington in that capacity.

Defensive tackle DaQuan Jones used social media to congratulate West on his promotion and share his opinions when it was announced.

Best wishes to this man! He will rank among the top DL coaches this league has ever had. He is really thoughtful and eager to see his profession succeed.
