Bill Bedenbaugh, Brent Venables, and Seth Littrell will all favor the 6-foot-5, 275-pound McClure as a walk-on in the 2024 class. In December, he got both that offer and one from the University of Arkansas.
He informed All Sooners on Friday night that he will be coming to campus in June.
“The procedure moved slowly,” McClure remarked. “I was hoping to receive a few more offers and sort of figure out my direction. After that, OU kind of jumped in with the PWO, and I really began to like it. Last Friday, I made a visit down there. I just picked there because Coach B is someone I’d really like to play for.Five offensive linemen have now committed to play for the Sooners in the upcoming freshmen class.
On Friday, the number of new freshmen from Oklahoma increased somewhat.
Three-time state champion and distinguished offensive lineman Evan McClure of Bixby, Oklahoma, declared his commitment to the Sooners.
McClure claimed to have had Division I offers from Akron and the Air Force Academy, and that OU had recruited him for the previous three months. All he needed to see was OU’s offer to come on as a preferred walk-on, with the possibility of a NIL agreement to aid with the finances.
“I mean, a big part of it was going up there last Friday,” McClure remarked. “My family and I enjoyed the bond that exists with the entire team.” And then, you are aware of the excellence of both the weightlifting room and Jerry Schmidt’s program. One major thing for me is that I’m eager to work out and get stronger, and Schmitty can help with that.
Josh Aisosa, Daniel Akinkunmi, Isaiah Autry, Eugene Brooks, and Eddy Pierre-Louis are the other offensive lineman joining McClure as incoming freshman for the Sooners.
