Breaking News: LSU Tigers Confirm The Departure Another Experienced Key Player

After starting his new program, Harris—who left Baton Rouge after just one season—will go back to Texas.

After spending one season in Baton Rouge, former LSU cornerback Denver Harris disclosed his Transfer Portal destination. Harris has enrolled in the UTSA course.

After spending the previous two seasons at Texas A&M and LSU, Harris—a five-star recruit in the 2022 cycle—will now enroll in his third school in three years.

During his two college seasons, Harris has garnered attention for his off-field problems, and in 2024, he will have the chance to improve his standing with UTSA.

Several players from the 2023 roster have disclosed their Transfer Portal destinations to the LSU program over this offseason.

The Trackers of the LSU Transfer Portal and Where They Go:

Chief Barrel Chestnut: Syracuse

After appearing in just a few games during his brief stay in Baton Rouge, the Syracuse transfer will now look for his third house in three years.

As they begin their next chapter, Chestnut and Denver Harris, a transfer from Texas A&M, have been apart from the team for more than two months.

Chestnut has revealed his next course of action since joining the free agency market. Harris’s current situation is uncertain.

“Well, we’re going to need to take a seat. Denver Harris and Chestnut have not been seated with us, according to Brian Kelly. “We’re going to wait until the semester is over before we sit down and speak with each of them individually.”

Florida State’s Jalen Brown, WR

There will be four more seasons that the former Sunshine State four-star receiver is eligible to play.

Brown caught 22 passes for 401 yards and three scores in just six games during his last prep football season. As a senior, two of his games were postponed and two more were cancelled due to injury. Throughout his time in high school, he hauled in 111 passes for 2,396 yards and 25 touchdowns.

The 2023 recruiting class’s Top 80 prospect has finally found a new home after a brief stay at the Transfer Portal.

Armoni Goodwin, RB: UAB

Goodwin, who did not play for the Tigers this season, has struggled with injuries during his time in the program, which has caused a major decline in his standing on the depth chart.

In 2021, Goodwin saw limited action as a true freshman, with 16 carries for 65 yards and zero touchdowns. However, he saw substantial playing time in the Tigers’ second season.

Before suffering a knee injury early in the season, Goodwin was the Tigers’ number one running back going into it. He gained 267 yards and five touchdowns on 45 carries in his sophomore year.

Goodwin continued to be a player returning from an injury at half pace even after he got back into a rhythm during Fall Camp in 2023.

The former American Top 150 prospect will now return home to play for Trent Dilfer’s UAB Blazers.

Colorado is the EDGE Quency Wiggins.

Quency Wiggins, a former defensive end for LSU, briefly used the NCAA Transfer Portal before disclosing his transfer destination. With a lot of potential, Wiggins will travel to Colorado to play for the Buffaloes under Deion Sanders.

During the recruiting process, the Tigers coveted the former four-star, who ranked among the Top 50 prospects in the 2022 cycle.

Slowed down this season by the lack of a defensive line coach, Wiggins, one of the best defensive ends in America, did not develop at the expected efficient rate.

Wiggins rose to prominence in the Transfer Portal as a raw, adaptable defensive lineman.

Now a new member of Sanders and Co., the former blue-chipper still possesses all the intangibles needed to be a productive player at a Power Five college.

Fitzgerald West, DL: Indecisive

After bouncing around the field while in Death Valley, West has had an unusual two years in the purple and gold.

He switched to defense during the 2023 campaign, where he felt most at ease going forward. Even though he doesn’t get much playing time, West has identified his position going forward.

“I enjoy it.” It’s nothing new to me. Since I’ve been playing it for virtually my whole life, I feel at ease with it,” West remarked. However, I wouldn’t say that the changeover learning plays and other things is too difficult for me. I know my assignment on every play because I pretty much understand the scheme.

Alabama Marlon Martinez, an offensive lineman

After spending four seasons in Baton Rouge, LSU offensive lineman Marlon Martinez made his way into the NCAA Transfer Portal. This week, Mississippi State was informed of the astute veteran’s transfer.

Martinez, who was essentially Brian Kelly’s program’s backup, will join his next destination as a graduate transfer with instant eligibility.

After obtaining SEC experience, the 6-foot-5, 330-pound Florida prospect hopes to make an impact as soon as possible. He was part of the Tigers’ 2020 recruiting class.

Throughout the course of four seasons, Martinez started four games for LSU.

Wisconsin-born TE Jackson McGohan

McGohan, one of the Tigers’ three rookie tight ends for 2023, disclosed his choice to transfer to Wisconsin.

Despite McGohan’s impressive skill set, which piqued the interest of program members when he participated in eight games in Year 1, the LSU tight end depth chart is still packed.

For the 2024 campaign, freshman Mac Markway and Ka’Morreun Pimpton will be joined by junior Mason Taylor. Despite the fact that Connor Gilbreath’s future looks to be at offensive line, the Tigers went out and signed him in July as well.

In the 2024 class, the Tigers also managed to snag highly sought-after prospect Trey’Dez Green. He’s a four-star Louisiana native who will try to get reps early.

DL Bryce Langston: Not certain

Although Langston, a former four-star recruit, signed a contract with the Tigers in 2021, he only appeared in four games while he was in Louisiana.

Despite being one of the Tigers’ best recruits in the 2021 cycle and a native of the Sunshine State, Langston never saw enough playing time with the team.

After sticking with the program and waiting patiently in a time when leaving is simple, Langston has now made a business decision to seek playing time.

At the time, the 6-foot-3, 293-pound player joined running backs Armoni Goodwin and Kevontre Bradford and cornerback Laterrance Welch as the fourth LSU Tiger to sign up for the NCAA Transfer Portal.

North Texas quarterback Kevontre Bradford

In 2020, Bradford signed a high school contract with LSU, but he left the Tigers after just one season and committed to Oklahoma.

Bradford made the move from Baton Rouge to the Big 12, but he never played a snap for the Sooners.

Following his departure from Oklahoma, the Texas native rejoined the Tigers for a second term, however he left the team before the 2022 campaign.

Bradford had not played at the collegiate level for almost two years, but Kelly’s decision to give him a second opportunity gave the running back group more depth.

Now, Bradford is off once more, this time with the chance to play football at his transfer school, North Texas. Bradford did not play another snap at running back following his first running back reps of the season against Florida State in Week 1.

Arizona State’s CB Laterrance Welch

Welch, who was a four-star player in the past and ranked among the Top 150 prospects for the 2022 cycle, has a lot of potential as he moves forward in his playing career. He recently disclosed that Arizona State is where he plans to transfer.

Welch participated in 96 defensive plays this season, according to PFF, in addition to receiving reps with the special teams squad.

Moving forward, the Tigers’ defensive backfield lacks depth, which is still a cause for worry.

Moving forward, LSU has a number of talented players, including Jeremiah Hughes, Sage Ryan, Ashton Stamps, Duce Chestnut, Denver Harris, JK Johnson, and Javien Toviano.

Johnson missed the entire 2023 season due to a lower-body ailment that necessitated surgery, while Chestnut and Harris did not play for the Tigers in the second half of the season for unknown reasons.
