Roberts arrived at the team late on deadline day last week, on loan from Burnley for the remainder of the season, but he was not signed in time for Friday’s away game against Bristol City.
The 28-year-old won’t be participating in tonight’s FA Cup replay against Plymouth Argyle, as he wasn’t registered for the initial match. However, he is expected to accompany the squad for the game, as mentioned by Daniel Farke. Despite his unavailability, Roberts expressed enthusiasm about joining Leeds last week, emphasizing how he believes it suits his playing style and is a club he always aspired to play for. Phil Hay, one of the reporters who interviewed Roberts upon his arrival, provided additional insights into his character on the latest episode of the Square Ball Podcast.
Hay sheds light on Roberts character
He remarked, “Connor Roberts has more than adequately filled the gap. He’s a seasoned right-back in the Championship, and when we met him before the official announcement last Thursday, it was easy to appreciate his demeanor. He exudes a certain attitude, a bit of a feisty nature. He spoke about relishing the physical battles on the field, getting involved, and embracing the competitive edge.
Yet, there’s also a confidence in his words that comes from someone well-acquainted with the Championship scene, someone who’s been through it all before. Having experienced the playoffs with Swansea and securing a title with Burnley, this is undoubtedly his familiar and comfortable territory.”
“As a player, I think it’s a good signing from a technical standpoint, but I also think having him in the dressing room will have some real value.”
Leeds boasts one of the youngest squads in the Championship this season, making the addition of someone with promotion experience like Connor Roberts a commendable move. With the departure of Luke Ayling, a significant figure in the dressing room, Roberts appears to be a seamless fit, not only as a player but also in terms of his presence both on and off the pitch.
The anticipation builds as Roberts is set to make his debut on Saturday against Rotherham United. Observing his contributions to the squad for the remainder of the season will be intriguing.
