Tre’Quan Smith, a former third-round selection of the Saints, has allegedly signed a reserve/future contract with the Detroit Lions. Smith leaves Denver after playing on the practice squad the previous season and rejoins Dan Campbell. He joined the Broncos on October 3 and appeared in just one game.

For the Saints in August, Smith’s training camp was unusual because he was absent from games and nobody knew for sure what was going on. Even so, he made the final roster. On September 9, he was placed on injured reserve, and on September 26, he was finally dismissed. Players like Keith Kirkwood and Lynn Bowden Jr. stole reps and the former 91st overall selection from the 2018 draft.

Smith, who turned 28 in January, is mainly regarded for his run-blocking skills, so he may mesh well with Ben Johnson’s scheme. Detroit will want to demonstrate that their success the previous season wasn’t just a “Cinderella” tale.
