Todd Boehly, a co-owner of Chelsea, has come under fire for his disorganized approach to business transfers.
Since Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital took management, Chelsea’s transfer history has been far from stellar. The Blues have overspent in the first 12 months of their new ownership regime, but a number of their new additions are underperforming on the field, to the point that Nottingham Forest, who are also eager to make transfers, has an advantage over the Londoners.
From the beginning of the 2022–23 season, transfer rumors have focused mostly on Forest and Chelsea. During that period, Tricky Trees made an incredible 39 acquisitions, just managing to qualify for the Premier League’s previous season.
Chelsea, on the other hand, has spent heavily on 25 permanent additions, including Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez, two midfield players that fetch nine figures. But just a small percentage of their immigrants have settled in well at Stamford Bridge.
In spite of the enormous sums paid for several Blues acquisitions and their relatively secure Premier League position, Chelsea’s recent additions have collectively contributed less goals than Forest’s wide array of additions.
Although the Tricky Trees’ 96 Premier League goals and assists come from a wider pool of recruits, many of them saw very little action at the City Ground. To mention a few, Josh Bowler has been out on loan since joining from Blackpool, and Loic Bade and Andrey Santos also departed without playing in the league.
Their top players are Taiwo Awoniyi (18 goals), Chris Wood (12 goals), Anthony Elanga (10 goals), Morgan Gibbs-White (18 goals), and Anthony Elanga (10 goals). Despite many ineffective transfers, Forest has had some success with transfers.
