The most recent transfer rumors and news from around the internet pertaining to Sunderland and the Championship.
This Saturday, Sunderland and Plymouth Argyle will play in the Championship at the Stadium of Light.
The match comes after the Black Cats’ 3-1 victory over Stoke at home two weeks ago and their 1-1 draw with Middlesbrough, another North East team, at Riverside Stadium last Sunday.
Sunderland star wanted by Tony Mowbray and others
Chris Rigg is still being pursued by teams, including Birmingham City under former manager Tony Mowbray.
The Echo is aware that Sunderland’s Championship competitors are keeping a careful eye on Rigg’s circumstances since the American owners of the team have goals higher up than just staying in the league. The 16-year-old attacking midfielder is wanted by Bayern Munich, Manchester City, Chelsea, Manchester United, and Liverpool.
After agreeing to a two-year scholarship with Sunderland last summer, Rigg has made eight appearances in all competitions this season and scored goals in the Championship and Carabao Cup.
Yann M’Vila to West Brom after Sunderland links?
West Brom is said to be in the final stages of discussions to acquire former Sunderland midfielder Yann M’Vila on a free transfer. The 33-year-old has been without a club since departing Greek side Olympiacos at the conclusion of the previous season. Although there were earlier links to a return to Sunderland, recent reports from French journalist Santi Aouna of Foot Mertaco suggest that West Brom is actively engaged in advanced negotiations with M’Vila, contemplating a potential four-month deal.
M’Vila, who notably made 40 appearances for Sunderland on loan during the 2015/16 season, holds a special place in the hearts of Wearside fans. Despite prior discussions about a return to Sunderland and interest from Ligue 1 clubs, he expressed his desire at the end of last year to join a club where he can secure regular playing time.
Blackburn Rovers appoint new manager
John Eustace, the former manager of Birmingham, has been confirmed by Blackburn Rovers to be in charge at Ewood Park.
The 44-year-old, who just finished a respectable stint at Birmingham City, has committed to a two-and-a-half-year contract with the team. Matt Gardiner, Eustace’s reliable assistant from St. Andrew’s, will be joining him at Ewood Park.
