Lucas Paqueta’s expression after Arsenal defeated West Ham 3-0 yesterday is captured in a picture that has surfaced.
Since our 1-1 FA Cup tie with Bristol City on January 7, West Ham’s Lucas Paqueta has been out due to injury.
David Moyes, the manager of the Hammers, organized his players in the same way for our match against Manchester United the previous weekend.
It was thus not surprising that the Gunners gave us a rough and tumble. After the game, Moyes told reporters that he completely understood why West Ham supporters could be seen leaving the London Stadium in large numbers at halftime.
Right now, West Ham is experiencing a very bad run of results. Since December 28th, which also happens to be the last time Paqueta played for us in the league, we have not won a Premier League match.
The Brazilian was there at the London Stadium for Arsenal’s 6-0 thrashing yesterday, and he appeared to be just as shocked as every other Hammer inside the arena.
The response of Lucas Paqueta following Arsenal’s third goal
Just before halftime, Gunners center-back Gabriel gave them a 3-0 lead, and the 26-year-old looked completely bewildered.
The image below was shared by West Ham insider Sean Whetstone on his official X account:
He must be asking himself, quite seriously, “What on earth is going on?” The main worry I have is that if we set up like that against the big teams, players like Mohammed Kudus and Paqueta won’t want to stay at the club for very long.
Since taking over at the London Stadium for a second time in December 2019, Moyes has accomplished a great deal. Of course, last season’s Europa Conference League victory stood out.
But it seems like he’s reached a point where he can no longer carry us forward beyond what he has already accomplished.
Yesterday, after Arsenal scored their third goal, Lucas Paqueta’s response perfectly captured how we were all feeling.
And if we are to have any chance at all of being among the top six or seven this season, things have to get better soon.
