Liam Gordon of St. Johnston challenged him, and his manager Tony Docherty called it a challenge that may have resulted in an injury that was “almost life-endangering.”
The incident took place on Sunday during Dundee’s 2-1 victory.
After the game, Mellon, who signed a loan with Dundee in January, was rushed to the hospital in an ambulance, but he is now said to be OK.
“Would like to thank the Dundee medical staff for their instinctive reactions to enter the field of play to attend to my little brother Michael today,” brother Jordan Mellon tweeted.
“He is in the hospital and is expected to recover quickly.”
In his post-match interview, an enraged Docherty also criticized referee David Munro, saying that the official should have waved play on after the headscratch.
But while the game was still going on, Dundee’s physician dashed onto the field to treat him.
He’s not that good, Docherty said. “I want the referee to address that. That was practically life-threatening in my opinion, and I didn’t even receive a booking for it.
“Michael is a great youngster on our squad, and I’m worried about him since he suffered a serious head injury.
Fortunately, Dr. McCormack, our talented physician, raced onto the field without listening to the referee. He realized what had transpired.
At the end of the game, there was a bittersweet note, and the player’s well-being comes first. However, I want you to speak with the referee about it.
