In order to compete in Olympic qualification, South Carolina basketball player Kamilla Cardoso missed the Gamecocks’ final two games.

she was there Playing in the hardest group in the qualifying competition, the 6’7″ Cardoso gave it her all to help Brazil reach the Summer Olympics, but they were barely outside of the medal race.

During the qualification competition, Cardoso averaged 15.3 points and 11 rebounds per game. She also recorded games with 4 assists, 3 steals, and 1 block.Cardoso placed fifth in scoring and led the Olympic qualification competition in rebounds. She had a 53.3% field goal percentage and a 73.7% free throw percentage. Her 20.7 player efficiency rating was among the highest in the competition.

Cardoso’s strong performance in Brazil secured her a place on the “All-Star 5” All-Olympic Qualifying Team. The only other player from Brazil to make the squad was her. Bec Allen (Australia),(Australia), Leonie Fiebich (Germany), and Yvonne Anderson (Serbia) joined Cardoso.

Cardoso is expected to be ready for South Carolina basketball’s games this week against Tennessee and Georgia as he returns to the United States. Tennessee will host the Gamecocks in Knoxville, and the College GameDay game of the week will be Georgia—the team’s fourth consecutive Sunday sellout. Carolina will establish new all-time records for average and total attendance if they have a successful finish to the year.

For the #1-ranked Gamecocks to have a chance to win their third national championship, Cardoso’s performance must be at the level required to qualify for the Olympics. The Naismith Defensive Player of the Year Award semifinalist and likely All-SEC center leads USC in scoring this year.
