Newcastle United co-owner posts five-word message about veteran star

For their Premier League matchup against AFC Bournemouth on Saturday, Newcastle United will be without a fully healthy striker.

For their Premier League match against AFC Bournemouth at home on Saturday afternoon (kickoff at 3pm), Newcastle United may be without a recognized striker.

After suffering an odd pectoral tendon injury during last weekend’s 3-2 triumph against Nottingham Forest, Callum Wilson might miss up to 12 weeks of action.

Initially, there was hope that the 31-year-old’s problem could be managed, but as reported by Mail Online on Thursday, a more thorough evaluation has indicated the necessity of surgery. The best-case scenario now is that the striker will make a comeback in April.

This setback is a significant blow for Newcastle’s No. 9, not only on a personal level but also casting doubt on his chances of being included in England’s Euro 2024 squad. The absence of the striker also leaves Newcastle with a shortage of options up front.

Presently, Eddie Howe’s team is without a fully fit senior striker. Alexander Isak, who has been dealing with a persistent groin injury throughout the campaign, has missed the last two games. Although there is a possibility of his return to the matchday squad on Saturday, starting the game seems unlikely.

Despite the challenging circumstances arising from injuries, Newcastle co-owner Jamie Reuben has attempted to downplay the situation.

After wishing fellow co-owner Mehrdad Ghodoussi a happy birthday on X (previously known as Twitter), Reuben said sarcastically, “Can you play up front?”

While many Newcastle fans found humor in the situation, some expressed disappointment over the club’s decision not to reinforce the squad during the January transfer window due to compliance with Premier League Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR). Anthony Gordon is anticipated to take on the leading role up front until Isak returns to full fitness.
