Anthony Gordon’s strike at St. James’ Park during Newcastle United vs. Bournemouth generated a lot of criticism.
Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy criticized the decision to grant Newcastle United a penalty in their match against Bournemouth, referring to it as a ‘strange one.’ Following an extended VAR review, the conclusion was reached that Adam Smith had fouled Fabian Schar, even though Schar was in an offside position when the free-kick was taken. The controversy revolves around the use of VAR in making this decision during the match.
It took them four and a half minutes, was quite ambiguous, and I believe there was room for interpretation. Since he is going to attack the ball, most people who have seen this believe it should be given [as offside]. On the other hand, if you carefully and thoroughly read the instructions, you can award a penalty instead of an offside. However, I disagree with it and believe it to be an odd one.
“However, we will object if they call a foul, but we have to accept it. However, if someone is offside, the ball flies right to him, therefore my player grabs the shirt to prevent him from heading the ball.
