Current Nottingham Forest news: Reds assign former referee Mark Clattenburg to an analyst position

Much discussion has resulted from Nottingham Forest’s decision to include former referee Mark Clattenburg in the team.

The 48-year-old has joined the Reds as a performance and match analyst. His job will be to provide “as-and-when” consulting in order to assist the club in comprehending the reasoning behind certain refereeing decisions.

Additionally, he will support the enhancement of Forest’s ties to the Professional Game Match Officials Board Limited (PGMOL). Due to their involvement in many contentious judgments this season, the Reds have gotten in touch with the regulatory body three times.
On Saturday, they had further reason to be upset when they claimed Maxwel Cornet of West Ham United had fouled Neco Williams and should have given a penalty kick. In the most recent episode of NottinghamshireLive’s podcast, Garibaldi Red, we spoke about the Clattenburg appointment and the penalty claim.

“I don’t know why Mark Clattenburg was appointed,” commented Steve Oldham, a supporter of Forest. What remarks will they make? It was a fine.

I’m not sure if he’s there to offer advice or to tell you to leave it because it’s gone. Forest has filed three complaints with the PGMOL, all of which have been made public. I do believe that occasionally this may work against us.

Sat., I observed the benches. Kevin Nolan, the West Ham manager, was returning to the dugout as it went to VAR, staring at David Moyes and slamming his head. He kept saying, “It’s a pen,” over and over. The pen is obvious to everyone on that bench.

“Divock Origi is coming towards the place with the ball under his arm; I’m not sure if he’s taking it. Everyone is aware that there is a punishment. They all erupt in protest when he (referee Thomas Bramall) says no, and the worst part of the ruling is that Nuno is now booked.

Howard Webb will most likely remark this, that, and the other regarding it. However, there must be a distinct boundary.

“There’s a fine! He hasn’t just hacked him down—he has touched him!

“If someone raised their hands, admitted they had made a huge mistake, expressed regret, and promised to do better, I could handle it. However, the topic of VAR is currently being discussed more than referees.

Clattenburg has previously discussed his part. “I will prepare pre-match packs on the officiating teams taking charge of their fixtures, and one of my other main aims will be improving the relationship between the club and the PGMOL,” he stated. “I will help in the understanding of how and why certain decisions are made.”

“Nuno hopes Mark Clattenburg can help to explain some of the decisions,” Reds reporter Sarah Clapson stated. Not getting an explanation for the judgments taken might be the most aggravating thing at times.

I’m not sure how it didn’t escalate to the point where the referee was sent to his monitor on Saturday. After that, Neco Williams was left with a slight limp. Clearly, he was apprehended, and fortunately, the situation wasn’t as severe as it could have been.

“I find it really annoying when decisions are inconsistent. Week after week and team to team, you receive varied decisions about comparable occurrences.

“Hopefully, Mark Clattenburg will be able to offer Nuno and the club some clarification and perspective. I’m not sure, though, if that will matter much once occurrences have occurred.

He and the owner were in the directors’ box when he was there on Saturday. Being a fly on the wall later, I’m sure Evangelos Marinakis was asking him questions about it, would have been amazing.

“There has to be more consistency in VAR and Premier League officiating.” Right now, it’s not there. You never know what you’re going to get from one referee to the next, or even from one game to the next.

It may be expensive. Although it wasn’t expensive on Saturday, there was a similar situation at 2-2 against Newcastle one week prior.

“It must be addressed. Forest is only attempting to approach the matter from a new angle, and it is also anticipated that Clattenburg can assist in fostering better ties with the PGMOL.
