David Moyes, the manager of West Ham United, has been under fire lately, and he has now talked about his future because his contract expires this summer.
David Moyes has been unable to use West Ham United’s Lucas Paqueta and Michail Antonio in his lineup for some time. The Scottish manager has given an update on the players’ health ahead of their Saturday trip to Nottingham Forest.
Due to the Hammers’ numerous injury issues this season, particularly with their attack, Moyes has been forced to use Jarrod Bowen in a position that is new to him as a center striker. Even if the England international has played well out of position, Moyes would benefit much if his players were permitted to play the positions that they enjoy.
Moyes informs Antonio and Paqueta.
Antonio is back, but Paqueta is out.
Before West Ham’s Premier League match against Nottingham Forest, Moyes sent a statement to the media confirming Antonio’s return to the team. He has, however, also given an update regarding Paqueta, although the international player from Brazil won’t be playing in this one.
“Lucas Paqueta will not be able to work tomorrow. He’s spent a few days on the grass, but he’s not quite ready. Lucas has been much missed. We’ve had some injuries recently, but other clubs have also experienced similar problems, so that’s just part of the sport. Michael Antonio is available at the back. He’s back in the team, but we need to see precisely how he is.”
The fact that Antonio is back and available is fantastic news for the Hammers, but Moyes’ remarks implied he might not be ready to play right away. Although Paqueta seems to be getting closer to making a comeback, the former Lyon player will be turning 35 too soon.
Moyes’s future is uncertain.
Following West Ham’s 6-0 loss to Arsenal at the London Stadium, reports have indicated that contract negotiations between Moyes and the Hammers have come to a standstill. Paqueta’s absence has coincided with the capital club’s recent struggles.
Moyes’ chances of holding the position for a longer amount of time would be greatly increased if the Brazilian international could make a comeback and perform like he did earlier in the season. Paqueta is unquestionably one of Moyes’s first choices on the team sheet and offers the Hammers a creative and goal-scoring threat in the final third.
Even if West Ham has had some unsatisfactory outcomes, injuries have undoubtedly had an impact.
