After a brief illness, a beloved Wigan actor and actress passed away.
Pam Shaw, a vocalist whose career started in the 1960s, was a legend on the North West club scene.
However, her fame may have come more from her work as an actor, having appeared in several TV shows and movies in cameo appearances throughout the years.
The 81-year-old Ince native, whose real name is Pamela Culshaw, was most recently seen in the most recent season of All Creatures Great and Small as Granny Binks. She had been anticipating seeing herself in a much more gory role in the soon-to-be-released thriller Passenger, which had some Wigan filming.
She also appeared in several television shows, including Scarborough, Eric and Ernie, Shameless, Coronation Street, and Alien Autopsy. She met several well-known figures in show business as a result of all of this, including Victoria Wood, Ant & Dec, and Peter Kay.
She was a seasoned performer in the club scene who had shared stages with artists such as Liberace and Englebert Humperdinck. She really enjoyed playing at Blackpool, and The Queen of Wigan Pier was one of her old nicknames. She also released an album with the same name.
Urban Talent Actors, located in Manchester, were Pam’s agency. The statement from the spokesperson, Alex Daszewski, read: “We are very sorry to learn about Pam Shaw’s demise.
“Pam had a very successful and lengthy career; the industry will miss her terribly.
“Pam was adored by many and brightened every space.
“Her friends and family are in our thoughts.”
Additionally, writer and former deputy editor of the Wigan Observer Geoff Shryhane stated: “As a local hack, I lost count of the number of articles I wrote about Pam over the years.”
“Despite never being a major celebrity, she left her impact. She was different.
“Journalists enjoy it when people promote themselves, and Pam had so many interesting stories to share. She was a kind and entertaining woman.
Pam lived alone in her Ince house and never married or had children. According to her neighbors, she was brought to the hospital last week by ambulance.
The funeral’s specifics are yet unknown.
