Lamar Jackson’s presence has made the Baltimore Ravens one of the most entertaining football teams to watch. The two-time MVP is deserving of his most recent individual award due to his amazing on-and off-field accomplishments.
His exploits, however, were insufficient to help the club defeat the Kansas City Chiefs and go to the Super Bowl because football is not a one-man show. The squad is currently on the verge of losing one of its most crucial playmaking spots.
Much of the Baltimore Ravens’ AFC Championship matchup with the Kansas City Chiefs was played with the wide receiver room noticeably neutralized. They have to evaluate how to strengthen the squad without sacrificing the qualities that made them successful in the previous season now that they are starting over.
With Zay Flowers the only sure thing, how will the Baltimore Ravens wide receiver room perform?
Of all the wide receivers that can have an influence on the team, Zay Flowers is the best choice for the Ravens. At 858 receiving yards at the end of 2023, he led all receivers in that category and scored five touchdowns. With 554 yards and six touchdowns, tight end Mark Andrews was Jackson’s second most successful target.
Odell Beckham Jr. is the Ravens’ most disappointing wide receiver. The Los Angeles Rams’ one-time Super Bowl champion only had 565 receiving yards and three receiving touchdowns to his credit.
Even though they have one of the top quarterbacks in Jackson, the Baltimore Ravens are in an odd circumstance. It was clear that Jackson’s rushing skills had rescued them. But in order to win the Super Bowl, the team must assist its quarterback in producing plays on the offensive end of the field.
Rashod Bateman and Zay Flowers will likely play together more in 2024, according to head coach John Harbaugh, but given Bateman’s injury history, that is hardly a given for the next year.
Last season, Duvernay and Treadwell combined to catch five passes. If Beckham Jr. is not reinstated, Jackson’s pass catchers will still include Flowers, Bateman, and tight ends Mark Andrews and Isaiah Likely.
Jackson needs weapons, so the Ravens will undoubtedly want to add one or more receivers to the mix, whether through the draft or a wise free agency acquisition.
With the Chiefs dynasty in full swing, the Baltimore Ravens’ quest to return to the Super Bowl will undoubtedly be difficult. But if you want to make it to the Super Bowl, you have to defeat them.
Hopefully, Lamar Jackson will have greater consistency with the redesigned Baltimore Ravens wide receiver room in the upcoming campaign.
