The 34-year-old forward for Le Havre, André Ayew, discussed his Premier League experience with Swansea City and the reasons behind his decision to join the Welsh team in an interview with L’Équipe.
The former Ghanaian international surprised everyone in 2015 by joining Swansea City of the Premier League on a free transfer from Marseille. With the Swans, Ayew immediately made an impression in the Premier League, winning Player of the Month in his debut month on the team.
Later on, Ayew moved from Swansea to West Ham. Before he decided to sign with the now-EFL Championship team, the 34-year-old was also linked to a transfer with the Hammers.
Regarding his unexpected choice to sign with Swansea in 2015, Ayew stated, “No, not at all. Swansea is unknown in France. Several other well-known teams expressed interest, but their football development was different. I was involved in all aspects, had a significant role, and there was a financial component. It was the finest option, in my opinion. And the Premier League immediately chose me as their best player of the month after I came.
André Ayew has returned to Ligue 1 after eight years at Swansea. When Le Havre signed the former Marseille forward from Nottingham Forest on a free transfer in November 2023, he ensured his return to the top flight of French football.
