Former Blackburn Rovers, Norwich City, and Swansea City player Martin Olsson has found himself in serious difficulties while playing in Sweden.
The Malmö center defender struck Varbergs BoIS player Robin Tranberg in the face during a game over the weekend, according to Fotboll Skanalen.
Olsson was definitely sent off for it, but it’s possible that he received additional punishment off the field because it was alleged that a private citizen “reported him to the police.”
It was made clear in an official statement that the former Swansea, Norwich, and Blackburn man is now being investigated.
A report has been prepared on minor abuse. Situation: During a match between MFF and Varbergs, in the ninetieth minute, a player struck another in the face with a clinched fist. Whether any injuries have happened is unknown.
The defense attorney attempts to justify himself by saying he was struck first, but the Swedish police will now have the last say on the matter.
When Olsson traveled to England for the first time in 2006, he was still relatively young, having left Hogaborg’s academy to join Blackburn.
The defender worked his way up to the first team at Rovers, where he remained until 2013 when he was traded for €2.9 million to Norwich City.
After a few years with the Canaries, he returned to Swansea City in January 2017 for a fee of €4.6 million.
He quit playing football in the United Kingdom in 2020 and relocated to his native Helsingborgs, Hacken, and eventually Malmö.
