After Aaron Rodgers was traded from the Green Bay Packers, the New York Jets spent the 2023 season doing anything Aaron Rodgers requested. This summer, the club is anticipated to attempt the identical strategies, and according to an NFL insider, two individuals who may assist Rodgers in managing his offense are in the running.
Aaron Rodgers was catered to last season
The Jets were unable to compete when Aaron Rodgers was injured on the opening drive of the season because they lacked a quarterback capable of properly running the system used by the future Hall of Famer.
The Jets signed wide receivers Randall Cobb and Allen Lazard, two former colleagues of Aaron Rodgers, so he would have familiar guys to work with in 2023. This is partly why Zach Wilson and the other quarterbacks were so incompetent last season. Nathaniel Hackett, a former offensive coordinator for the Packers, was added for the same position in New York.
Some people at the team’s facilities apparently took exception at the manner the Jets catered to Rodgers last season. In 2024, however, Rodgers is projected to return from a ruptured Achilles, and the Jets will likely center their construction around him once more.
The New York Jets could add David Bakhtiari or Tyler Boyd
Albert Breer stated in his Sports Illustrated mailbag that he believes the Jets will be interested in Bengals wide receiver Tyler Boyd and Packers offensive lineman David Bakhtiari:
If he is released in the next few days, David Bakhtiari of the Green Bay Packers is the first possible target I would watch closely. Given his history of injuries, it would be difficult for the Jets to rely only on Bakhtiari, but bringing the tackle into the equation would be a smart place to start. And then, I could definitely see Tyler Boyd of the Cincinnati Bengals or one of the experienced backs we have discussed being brought to the mix.
The Jets need to put everything on the line for the immediate future, which is why I believe they will go above and above to accommodate Rodgers’ recovery from his ruptured Achilles tendon. This entails addressing the tackle position in the draft and free agency, as well as adding to the skill positions occupied by young players like Breece Hall and Garrett Wilson. Rodgers will undoubtedly aid New York in recruiting in those fields.
Are those the best moves for the Jets?
Even though Bakhtiari is undoubtedly the finest player on the field when healthy, adding him would be a big gamble for the Jets. Despite being Rodgers’ friend, Bakhtiari is an older left tackle who has been a reliable starter for the Packers since he suffered an ACL tear in December 2020. Bakhtiari ended the 2023 season on injured reserve following a number of operations.
Boyd may be a great addition to the Jets. After the team added so many relatively worthless former Packers to the roster last season, Rodgers needed an upgrade at wide receiver. Would strengthening the offensive line or other, more pressing needs on the squad be sacrificed in order to sign Boyd?
