Journalist Report: Newcastle now in for 27-year-old striker deal

The latest news indicates that the Magpies are actively seeking to acquire a flexible forward due to challenges in their offensive performance during this season, primarily attributed to injuries affecting Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson.

Callum Wilson is presently sidelined due to pectoral muscle surgery and is rumored to be considering a departure from St James’ Park in the upcoming summer. This speculation follows previous links suggesting his potential exit in January, and now, it appears increasingly probable that his tenure with the Toon will conclude shortly.

While parting ways with Wilson would be regrettable, Eddie Howe faces a significant challenge with the striker’s recurring fitness concerns. To address this issue, there are indications that Newcastle might be eyeing Stuttgart forward Serhou Guirassy as a potential target, as suggested by Ben Jacobs.

Newcastle fans told to keep an eye on Serhou Guirassy

Journalist Ben Jacobs shared a message with Newcastle United fans during his appearance on Caught Offside’s The Debrief on X, advising them to monitor Serhou Guirassy closely. Jacobs mentioned the presence of a highly reasonable release clause for Guirassy and highlighted the player’s impressive season at Stuttgart.

Difficult to see Newcastle signing Guirassy

Guirassy is undeniably enjoying a remarkable season, having notched up an impressive 20 goals in the Bundesliga, a performance surpassed only by Harry Kane with 27 goals. Despite the 27-year-old forward being associated with a potential departure from Stuttgart in the January transfer window, no agreement materialized, despite the presence of a highly affordable £15 million release clause.

Even though there were speculations linking him to a move to Newcastle, with Eddie Howe’s team reportedly given the opportunity to acquire him, a deal for Guirassy appeared improbable. This sentiment persists, and there remains skepticism about the likelihood of a transfer in the upcoming summer, in contrast to Ben Jacobs’ suggestions.

Acquiring a striker of Guirassy’s quality for £15 million would indeed be considered a smart move, but it’s conceivable that Newcastle might have their sights set on a younger prospect, although acknowledging that 27 isn’t necessarily old in football terms.

Versatility is a key factor for the Magpies, and this could potentially work against Guirassy, given his primary role in the central attacking position. In reality, the ongoing speculation around his transfer feels more like discussions initiated by agents rather than concrete developments.
