The Magpies are gearing up for an active summer transfer window. Despite Financial Fair Play (FFP) restrictions, the club is anticipated to approve several incoming and outgoing transfers.

One crucial area that the team is certain to bolster is the goalkeeping position. Despite Eddie Howe’s preference for Nick Pope as the primary goalkeeper, the ex-Burnley shot-stopper has been sidelined for a significant portion of the season due to a severe shoulder injury.

As a result, being compelled to depend on Martin Dubravka and Loris Karius, it is evident that Newcastle is keen on enhancing their choices in the goalkeeping department.

Newcastle United join race for Aaron Ramsdale

As per transfer journalist Dean Jones, one player on Howe’s radar is Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsdale. The English goalkeeper has been relegated to the bench at Arsenal after Mikel Arteta signed David Raya from Brentford last summer. With Ramsdale featuring in only five Premier League games throughout the season, it’s widely anticipated that he will seek a move away from the Emirates in pursuit of consistent playing time.

“I believe simple logic indicates that Ramsdale cannot continue to be relegated to the bench, observing Arsenal’s matches week after week,” remarked Jones to GiveMeSport.

“He essentially has a season ticket at the moment, and that’s not the ideal situation for him at this point in his career. Despite that, he’s demonstrated remarkable professionalism throughout the season, staying patient when others might not have.

“He’s bound to receive offers to depart. I anticipate hearing more rumors about that in May and as we approach the Euros. I’m aware of interest from both Newcastle and Chelsea. I would be genuinely surprised if Ramsdale doesn’t leave Arsenal in the summer.”

Since joining Arsenal in 2021, Ramsdale, with a reported weekly salary of £120,000 according to Spotrac, has accumulated 32 clean sheets in 88 games across all competitions.
