After a productive few weeks in the Netherlands, Yankuba Minteh’s loan club wants to cling onto him for an extended period of time.
Feyenoord’s technical director has stated that in the upcoming month, the club will make efforts to influence Newcastle United’s decision regarding Yankuba Minteh’s future. Minteh, a 19-year-old winger, was acquired by Newcastle from Odense in Denmark last summer and subsequently loaned to the Netherlands. His recent performance includes three goals in the last two league games, bringing his total to seven goals and three assists in 27 matches this season. Minteh’s time in the Eredivisie has garnered mixed reviews, displaying promise alongside areas that still require development. Despite receiving criticism, the teenager, who participated in all three of The Gambia’s Africa Cup of Nations group matches in January, has generally shown improvement over time.
The Chronicle is aware that before determining the young player’s next growth steps, Eddie Howe would prefer to evaluate him during the preseason. According to the Dutch publication AD, Feyenoord is actively working to retain him for the upcoming campaign.
According to club director Dennis te Kloese, Newcastle will talk about the issue in the upcoming weeks. “Newcastle United will discuss this in April,” he stated. But he is improving. Even though he is still very young, his speed is amazing.
Arne Slot, the manager of Feyenoord, has chosen to start Minteh in three of the last four Eredivisie matches and in a total of 13 games across all competitions this season. While expressing appreciation for what Minteh brings to the team, Slot is quick to emphasize that the player is still a work in progress.
In a statement made in January, Slot remarked, “I think that is also the reason why Newcastle United loaned him to us – they, just like us, see a lot of talent in him but he’s not ‘finished’ yet. That is the place we currently occupy in the football pyramid. If he had such an overview of the ball to give every cross, he would have stayed at Newcastle.”
Minteh was signed by Newcastle in July for just less than £6 million, and his contract was for five years.
