The co-owner of Newcastle United observed as his team fell short of Chelsea 3-2 at Stamford Bridge.
Newcastle United co-owner Jamie Reuben expressed his disappointment with the team’s 3-2 defeat against Chelsea. In the match, Eddie Howe’s side faced an early setback as Nicolas Jackson redirected Cole Palmer’s initial attempt into the net in the sixth minute, putting Chelsea in the lead.
As halftime approached, Alexander Isak’s curling finish gave United an equalizer. But shortly before the hour, Palmer’s well-placed shot gave the Blues their lead back.
Replace Mykhailo Mudryk sprinted into the penalty area to make it 3-1. After coming on as Anthony Gordon’s replacement in the first half, Jacob Murphy gave United a spectacular comeback, but Chelsea held firm.
As the fight for European qualification heats up, Mauricio Pochettino’s team fell one point behind Newcastle in 10th place with a game remaining. Other teams in the race include Manchester United, West Ham, Brighton and Hove Albion, and Wolves.
Confirming his stance on X, formerly referred to as Twitter, Jamie Reuben conveyed his sentiment, stating, “Disappointed about the result but our supporters were tremendous once again @NUFC. Thank you, and safe trip home.”
Newcastle will be hitting the road again this Saturday as they face Manchester City in the quest for a spot in the FA Cup semi-finals. Approximately 8,000 Geordies are expected to be present at the Etihad Stadium, a venue where the club has not secured a victory in the past 10 years.
