Forward Landon Slaggert has joined the Chicago Blackhawks on an entry-level, two-year deal with a $912,500 budget cost.
The agreement is in effect until the 2024–25 season concludes.
Slaggert just concluded his time as a member of the University of Notre Dame, where he set a career high with 20 goals and 31 points. The 21-year-old, who has also been an alternate captain for the last two seasons, ends his collegiate career with 47 goals and 92 points in 136 games.
This year, the Hobey Baker Award, which goes to the best men’s hockey player in the NCAA, also saw a nomination for the South Bend, Indiana native.
Winger Slaggert was selected 79th overall in the 2020 draft. From 2018 to 20, he participated in the USA Hockey National Team Development Program for two years. Slaggert competed for the United States in two World Junior Championships, winning a gold medal in 2021.
Carter, Slaggert’s younger brother, recently concluded his first year in college at Notre Dame. Graham, their older brother, finished his four-year tenure with the Fighting Irish in 2022 and is playing in his second pro AHL season with Rochester.
Andy Slaggert, their father, has been employed by the school since 1993 and is presently the associate head coach of the team. In the 1980s, he played at Notre Dame for four years.
Charlie Roumeliotis of NBC Chicago reports that Slaggert will likely sign with the Hawks on Thursday, but he won’t likely play until the weekend.
Slaggert is a quick forward with the ability to play in the bottom six and occupy space near the net. Even while he probably won’t be an NHL offensive star, his work ethic should keep him around for the near future.
