One of Newcastle United’s youthful midfielders won’t be available for Saturday’s FA Cup quarterfinal against Manchester City.
Joe White, the midfielder for Newcastle United, will be unavailable for the FA Cup quarter-final match against Manchester City on Saturday, with kick-off scheduled for 5:30 pm. Despite returning from his loan spell at Crewe Alexandra, the 21-year-old has only made two substitute appearances for Newcastle recently. He came off the bench during the closing stages of The Magpies’ 2-2 draw against Bournemouth at St James’ Park last month and was also introduced in the match against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Monday night.
However, FA Cup regulations prevent him from being included in the matchday roster for United’s trip to the Etihad Stadium this coming weekend. Having played for the League Two team in the FA Cup three times already this season, White is cup-tied with Crewe.
Consequently, Joe White is ineligible to participate for Newcastle this weekend, as he was also ineligible for the previous round during the trip to Blackburn Rovers. According to FA Cup regulations, “A player shall not play for more than one Club in the Competition in the same season.” Similar regulations apply in the Carabao Cup, but not in European club competitions. White will be aiming to return to action for Newcastle’s home match against West Ham United on Saturday, March 30, with kick-off set for 12:30 pm, following the international break. However, with Elliot Anderson and Joe Willock recently returning from injury, the Newcastle academy graduate may find it challenging to secure minutes on the pitch.
Howe answered, “Who knows?” when asked if White might play a bigger role for Newcastle this season. Joe is working on many various facets of his game while training with us every day, and I’m happy with the progress he’s making.
“I’ve noticed significant improvement, a notable step forward following his loan spell, and I believe it has been a highly beneficial period for his career. I’m optimistic that his current stint with us will also be productive, and he has the potential to play a significant role in our future.”
White inked a three-year professional contract with Newcastle in 2022, which is set to expire next summer. At 21, he is entering a crucial phase in his career, having previously showcased his talent on loan at both League One and League Two levels.
He will continue to be part of Newcastle’s first-team setup until the season’s end, after which a decision will be made regarding his future involvement with the club or the possibility of him playing elsewhere.
