Anthony Gordon has admitted to being in close proximity to a potential summer acquisition for Newcastle United. While currently engaged in international duty with England, the forward might also be engaged in scouting activities for his club. Newcastle’s focus has been particularly keen on a specific player from the England squad, and Gordon’s relationship with him could play a pivotal role in potential recruitment efforts.
Jarrad Branthwaite, who received his inaugural call-up, shares a strong connection with Gordon, as per a Newcastle player. This bond stems from their years of playing together at Everton prior to Gordon’s move to Newcastle. Despite interest from other clubs like Manchester City, Manchester United, and Tottenham, Newcastle’s interest in the £60 million-rated defender remains substantial. Nonetheless, Gordon’s relationship with him could significantly influence his decision to join Newcastle.
In reference to his seatmate, Gordon said, as reported by The Shields Gazette:
“Brandwaite, Jarrad. We’ve been playing together for years, so our relationship is excellent.
Gordon and Branthwaite combined their efforts to assist England Under-21’s in securing victory at the Under-21 European Championship last summer, showcasing their strong rapport. Newcastle is facing a pressing need for a new center-back in the upcoming summer transfer window, especially with Sven Botman possibly sidelined until the new year.
Despite Branthwaite’s youth at just 20 years old, he exhibits considerable potential and could emerge as a cornerstone of Newcastle’s defense for the next decade if developments proceed positively. However, his acquisition would likely come with a hefty price tag.
Real Madrid has demonstrated interest in Branthwaite due to his impressive displays at Everton, posing stiff competition for Newcastle. Additionally, Manchester United is actively seeking a new center-back to partner with Lisandro Martinez for the forthcoming season, with Branthwaite being closely monitored.
In the summer, Everton is expected to receive numerous offers for the talented English center-back.
