Caleb Foster, a freshman guard for Duke, suffered a stress fracture to his right ankle, which will keep him out of the NCAA Tournament, coach Jon Scheyer announced on Thursday. Play begins on Friday in New York versus No. 13 Vermont, the team ranked fourth in the South Region by Duke. Since sustaining the injury during Duke’s loss to Wake Forest on February 24, the 6-foot-5 Foster has not participated in any games.

“My heart breaks for Caleb because Caleb has done literally everything you could ask from a guy who has an injury and trying to get back out there,” Scheyer stated. Foster averages 7.7 points per game and has participated in 27 games (15 starts). He is making 40.6 percent of his 3-pointers and 43.7 percent of his field goals.
Tyrese Proctor, Jared McCain, and Jeremy Roach make up the current guard rotation. “Caleb cannot be replaced,” Scheyer declared. “He has a large heart. Along with being a fierce competitor, he just improves everyone on the floor. And regrettably, since the Wake Forest game, we have had to play without him.”
