According to Paul Robinson, Nottingham Forest needs guarantees from the Premier League that their sentence would not be increased by points following their appeal.
The former England and Tottenham goalkeeper revealed in an exclusive interview with Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast that he was taken aback by Forest’s decision to file an appeal despite receiving a lesser sentence than Everton for a “worse crime.”
Earlier this month, Forest was docked four points for allegedly breaking the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules.
Forest declared on Monday, March 25, that they had appealed the ruling, even though they were given two points off their deduction for cooperating with the investigation.
Football Insider has disclosed that there is a “disaster” scenario in which Forest’s sentence could be increased by points following their appeal.
Nottingham Forest must have assurances that PSR appeal won’t backfire
Five days after the Premier League season ends, on May 24, the independent commission will deliver the outcome of their appeal.
Robinson stated on the Football Insider Inside Track podcast that Forest needs guarantees that their deduction will not be increased.
“If Nottingham Forest didn’t know they were okay, I don’t think they would have filed an appeal,” he stated.
“Forest seems extremely certain that they won’t lose any more points through an appeal.”However, it appears that merely by virtue of their kindness, they were docked fewer points for a more serious offense than Everton.
It seems that they have a backdoor message that says they won’t be able to gain any more points, but they might get some back.
