According to The Sun, there is reportedly a transfer tussle brewing between Arsenal and their north London adversaries Tottenham over the Newcastle forward this summer.
talkSPORT’s Transfer Notebook previously reported that Newcastle might need to sell one of their top players to raise funds for summer signings and avoid violating Financial Fair Play regulations.
Now, talkSPORT’s Football Correspondent Alex Crook has indicated that there could be significant validity to the possibility of Arsenal making a £100 million bid for Isak this summer.
Crook stated, “I believe there’s more than just speculation behind it.” He explained, “Under the current profit and sustainability rules, selling Isak would require a substantial offer because Newcastle paid £60 million for him.” He emphasized the importance of making a profit on transfers to comply with Profit and Sustainability Rules. “Simply selling him for £80 million would only result in a £20 million profit on the balance sheet,” he added.
Crook suggested that if a £100 million offer were to be made, Newcastle would have to seriously consider it. He concluded, “I do think there is some substance to the Arsenal rumors.”
Newcastle would likely be more inclined to sell the beloved player if they fail to secure a European spot, with their current position being eighth in the league, five points away from the top six.
Newcastle manager Eddie Howe recently addressed the potential departure of Isak, stating, “He’s an exceptional talent, and nobody associated with Newcastle would wish to see him go.”
During the international break, Isak himself acknowledged that “if opportunities arise, anything can occur.”
The 24-year-old striker has had a challenging season, marked by a groin injury, but has still managed to score 18 goals and provide one assist. He showcased his prowess in Saturday’s thrilling 4-3 victory against West Ham, netting two penalties and setting up Harvey Barnes’ opening goal.
Since joining Newcastle from Real Sociedad in 2022, Isak has made 58 appearances for the club, scoring a total of 28 goals across all competitions.
In other transfer news, Newcastle is reportedly interested in Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale, a move that could potentially lead to the departure of Nick Pope.
