Stefon Diggs, who spent four seasons with the Buffalo Bills, is en route to Houston to sign with the Texans. The Houston Texans acquire their top wide receiver, C.J. Stroud, in a surprise deal, and it looks like the Bills will need to rebuild their wide receiving corps in order to achieve their offensive goals. The AFC East title is up for grabs, with teams in the East strengthening their rosters and Buffalo in need of a number one receiver. But why specifically?
After his season ended after only four plays due to an Achilles tear, Aaron Rodgers and the New York Jets are hoping for big things this year. Now that Rodgers is anticipated to be fully recovered, he leads a potent offense that features Breece Hall at running back, Garrett Wilson and Mike Williams at wide receiver.
Guys like C.J. Mosley, Sauce Gardner, and Quinnen Williams are back, and the Jets’ defense is strengthened by the addition of Haason Reddick and Javon Kinlaw. The absence of the NFL’s top receiver plus Josh Allen’s interception issues mean that the Bills’ attack will go up against a defense that could rank in the top ten in the league.
Buffalo must be concerned about more than simply the Jets. The New England Patriots are another issue they must deal with. But as of right now, they own the third overall pick, which will very certainly go to a quarterback who, having failed to establish himself as the franchise quarterback, will take over as quarterback.
Buffalo did lose to New England at Gillette Stadium and almost avoided defeat by the Patriots at home during the previous season. Now that they lack a legitimate number-one receiver, the Patriots’ secondary should exploit the lackluster group of receivers, and the Bills’ defense, which did not become much better, may find it difficult to contain an attack that caused them problems the previous season.
