The NFL’s version of purgatory is where the New Orleans Saints are right now. After finishing with a 9–8 record, Dennis Allen’s team hasn’t qualified for the postseason since Sean Payton took over as coach in 2020.
Since then, New Orleans has turned into a mediocre team with a clear and actual backdrop. Its salary cap predicament has not been good. General manager Mickey Loomis has had to postpone these problems for the previous few years as a result.
Could this be relevant later this week during the NFL Draft in 2024? On Tuesday, Loomis held his pre-draft press conference in the Bayou with media. Regarding the potential trade of four-time Pro Bowl cornerback Marshon Lattimore, he was questioned. The head of front office did not rule out the prospect entirely.
“You have the right and the ability to ask inquiries, but keep in mind that everyone is negotiable based only on the offer you receive. However, that isn’t very typical. Trading players that have helped us out is something I dislike doing.
Throughout the offseason, trade speculations around 27-year-old Lattimore have been prevalent. Due to injury, the former Ohio State first-round selection has only appeared in 17 games over the last two seasons. The cornerback was selected to three straight Pro Bowls from 2019 to 21 prior to that.
Here, the obvious question is raised. Which team is going to give up a lot for Lattimore? After New Orleans adjusted the veteran’s contract earlier this summer, he will only count $1.21 million against the cap for an acquiring team.
The Saints, on the other hand, will start Thursday as the 14th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. There are eight more choices for the annual event in New Orleans. Young cornerback(s) may be found during the yearly event.
