As Salernitana faces the looming threat of relegation, Italian media suggests the club is already planning for a rebuild in the upcoming season, with preparations underway to offload several assets during the summer transfer window.
Among the players expected to depart is Lorenzo Piola, a talented 22-year-old defender, and reports indicate that Newcastle United is showing interest in him.
Corriere Dello Sport has reported today on Newcastle’s pursuit of Piola, emphasizing the defender’s status as a “real jewel” and highlighting Salernitana’s readiness to negotiate a significant sale involving him.
It should be noted that Piola was already courted by Newcastle in December. Given the likelihood of relegation, the Magpies should have much easier access to Piola.
It is believed that Salernitana values the defender at €30 million. This comprises the 15% that they are obligated to pay his previous team, Inter Milan, as per their arrangement following his transfer last year.
The Magpies can most likely obtain a far better bargain than that in actuality.
