Breaking News: National Champion Guard Kateri Poole Reveals Transfer Destination

Poole, who was cut from the 2023–24 LSU team, will return to the field.

After being cut from the 2023–24 team, National Champion LSU guard Kateri Poole will play again, she announced on social media on Sunday.

A member of Kim Mulkey’s National Championship team the previous year, Poole left the program after just four games of the previous campaign for undisclosed reasons.

The former high school five-star recruit will now complete her playing career by joining the Houston Cougars team.

On December 10, head coach Kim Mulkey revealed that Poole was departing LSU. Playing in 35 games, she was a vital component of the team that won the national championship the previous year.

Poole was most useful when he shut down the perimeter guards of the opposition.

On November 17, when Mulkey returned to Tangipahoa Parish and the Tigers played Southeastern, Poole made his final appearance for LSU. She decided to leave the program after having missed three weeks’ worth of games prior.

When No. 7 LSU went to the Cayman Islands for their Thanksgiving tournament last month, Poole and All-American forward Angel Reese were absent from the program. Reese returned to the team the following week.

She never came back for Poole. She was a vital part of the Tigers’ run for the National Championship the previous season, and her departure from Baton Rouge cost LSU some depth in the backcourt.

During LSU’s 2023 NCAA Tournament run, the Ohio State transfer started every one of the team’s six games, which helped the Tigers improve defensively and win their first program title.

Several difficulties garnered media attention for Mulkey & Co. in the early going of the 2023–24 season.

It became a difficult first half of the season with Reese and Poole missing many games for unknown reasons, but the team kept winning ball games.

In addition, starting point guard Hailey Van Lith missed the Tigers’ nonconference game against Louisiana-Lafayette due to plantar fasciitis in her foot. She didn’t suit up for the defending National Champions, although she was spotted practicing drills before the match.

After visiting the program last week, Poole, a former Tiger, is now prepared to resume her playing career and finish her college career with the Houston Cougars.
