Jon Scheyer has undoubtedly established himself as one of the top high school recruiters throughout his time as head coach of Duke basketball. Before he had an opportunity to establish himself as a head coach, the former national champion locked up the top recruiting class in his first year in charge.
He dropped just one rank the following season with the No. 2 overall class, but he immediately jumped back up and prepared to receive the No. 1 overall class again this autumn for his third campaign.
Two five-star players on the 247Sports 2024 Composite, Cooper Flagg (ranked No. 1 overall) and Isaiah Evans (ranked No. 15 overall), are included in that class. As two of the best preps in the country, they have a lengthy resume of accolades and achievements. But the highly regarded forwards have accomplished something else as they get closer and closer to arriving on campus to start their offseason training as Blue Devils.
The two were included in the picture released by the SLAM social media platforms together with the other five members of the SLAM High School Boys All-American Team on Tuesday:

Flagg and Evans are grouped with Tre Johnson, VJ Edgecombe, and Dylan Harper, three more five-star talents. Harper is set to play for Rutgers University. Johnson will represent Texas in the game. And since Edgecombe, a senior in high school, decided to play for the Bears rather than Duke earlier this year, he will be Baylor’s teammate with former Blue Devil Jeremy Roach.
Jon Scheyer has selected two recruits from Duke basketball, making it his third year with at least one recruit and his second with multiple selections.
Now, in his three years as head coach, the Blue Devils have produced six of the sixteen players chosen for the SLAM All-America team. In 2023, Jared McCain was the only member of Duke’s delegation; the previous year, Kyle Filipowski, Dereck Lively II, and Dariq Whitehead were named to SLAM’s six-person All-American team.
The Duke basketball team will welcome four more highly anticipated freshmen in addition to Cooper Flagg and Isaiah Evans: five-star center Khaman Maluach (ranked No. 6 in the composite), five-star forward Kon Knueppel (ranked No. 16), five-star center Patrick Ngongba II (ranked No. 26), and four-star forward Darren Harris (No. 41).
