Following the Wednesday waiver of rookie quarterback Chevan Cordeiro, the Seahawks are now looking for a third quarterback.
San Jose State’s Cordeiro signed this past week as an undrafted rookie free agent and participated in the team’s rookie minicamp the previous weekend. Other than veterans Geno Smith and Sam Howell, he was the only other quarterback on the ninety-man roster.
Taulia Tagovailoa of Maryland and Kory Curtis of Division II Gannon University were tryout players who also took part in the rookie minicamp, although they were not signed to contracts.
Tagovailoa will participate in Arizona’s rookie minicamp this weekend, according to a report from the NFL Network on Tuesday. Teams may choose to hold their rookie minicamps this weekend or last weekend.
It was unclear right away if the Seahawks would sign two quarterbacks or if they would target another one.
On May 20, the Seahawks will start their Organized Team Activities, which will include sessions where the offense and defense can play 11-on-11.
In addition to being named a first-team All-Mountain West quarterback last season, Cordeiro also holds the record for the most MWC touchdowns in his career (113), total yards (13,811), and completions (971). His career began at Hawaii from 2018 to 21 before he transferred to San Jose State for his final two seasons as a quarterback.
The Seahawks now have two opening places on their 90-man roster as a result of Cordeiro’s waiver.
