From the IL, Jacob deGrom is currently returning home. In approximately one week, if all goes according to plan, he should be throwing from the mound. The Texas Rangers should be pleased with this news.
Two-Time Cy Young Winner Is Getting Close To Return
Status Update With Jacob DeGrom
DeGrom hopes to participate in a bullpen session this month after suffering an elbow ailment and recovering from his second Tommy John. It might even occur during the upcoming Rangers homestand. He might make a comeback as soon as August if his recuperation proceeds as planned. It is contingent upon him not experiencing any setbacks during his recuperation. Even though his return seems promising, there is one thing you have to question. Is it wise to pitch now and when he gets back, pitch in high-leverage situations?
The last thing an organization and a team manager want is to hasten a player’s return, risking further setbacks and injuries. DeGrom is set to throw his first bullpen session since undergoing Tommy John surgery last June. His surgery took place during the Rangers’ homestand from June 17-23 last season. The Rangers need him to make the playoffs and aim to defend their championship title. Texas is currently second in the AL West, trailing the Seattle Mariners by five games. The team could certainly use DeGrom and several other injured players who are awaiting recovery. This year has seen an overwhelming number of injuries. In addition to DeGrom, players like Evan Carter, Corey Seager, Max Scherzer, Tyler Mahle, and Josh Sborz are also working towards regaining their health.
DeGrom has been engaging in flat ground throwing and is following a structured and cautious rehabilitation timeline after his second Tommy John surgery. The right-handed pitcher has met all necessary milestones in his recovery process, but still has some steps to complete before his official return. While an August return appears promising, it is not yet guaranteed.
Why DeGrom Is Worthy
DeGrom would be one of the pitchers on San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Logan Webb’s ideal rotation, he said when asked. Webb also highlighted DeGrom’s talent level. DeGrom finished the previous season with a 2-0 record, a 2.67 ERA, and a 0.76 WHIP in six games pitched. DeGrom played his entire career for the New York Mets before the previous season. With a more than respectable ERA across his whole career, the 35-year-old has had an outstanding career. The Rangers supporters are eager for him to return.
