Will Riley, a five-star forward from Malvern (Pa.) Phelps School, has established a decision date.
Riley said on social media on Thursday that he would make his announcement on June 23. Riley will select between the New Zealand Breakers (NBL), Alabama, Arizona, Illinois, Kentucky, and Arizona.
He recently traveled to Illinois, Kentucky, and Alabama on official business. Riley had listed Arkansas in his top 5, but Illinois took their position.
Riley, standing at 6 feet 8 inches and weighing 180 pounds, currently holds the No. 16 spot overall in the 2025 class, as per the industry average 247Sports Composite. There’s strong consideration from him to reclassify to the 2024 class.
Hailing originally from Kitchener, Ontario, Canada, Riley garnered attention when he was named the Most Valuable Player of the Basketball Without Borders Global Camp in February, held during NBA All-Star Weekend in Indianapolis.
His standout performance continued at the Nike EYBL stop in Indianapolis last month. Playing for UPLAY Canada, Riley showcased his skills with an impressive stat line, averaging 25.8 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 2.8 assists. He shot an impressive 69.1% overall and drained 60% of his three-point attempts, including a remarkable 42-point display against Team Durant, where he made 15 of 16 shots, including a flawless 5 of 5 from beyond the arc in a dominant 100-60 victory.
According to Branham, Riley is viewed as one of the most intriguing long-term prospects in his class. With his remarkable size, length, and versatile skill set, he has the ability to excel both as a scorer and a playmaker on the court. His performance this spring has catapulted him as one of the significant risers, and it’s anticipated that he will climb further in the rankings with the next update.
During this travel season spanning over 10 games, Riley has been instrumental in UPLAY’s performance, averaging 21.4 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 2.6 assists, leading the team to a commendable 6-4 record.
Despite Kentucky experiencing a coaching transition with John Calipari’s departure for Arkansas, Riley maintained his interest in the program, including them in his top 10 in March and his top five last month. The new coaching staff at UK, led by Mark Pope, along with assistants Alvin Brooks III, Jason Hart, and Cody Fueger, kept a close eye on Riley’s performance in Indianapolis.
Expressing his priorities for his next basketball destination, Riley emphasized the importance of being placed in familiar positions and scenarios, while also seeking a coach who recognizes his potential and aligns with his aspirations. He stressed his versatility on the court, noting his ability to shoot, pass, and contribute beyond scoring. Riley believes his passing skills are often overlooked but considers them a significant asset in elevating his team’s performance.
Despite Kentucky having only one remaining scholarship for the 2024 class, Riley remains open to considering the program as he evaluates his options for the future.
Pope declared lately that “the 13th scholarship is a floating piece.” “A young player might find a home there. A senior player who plans to take a redshirt year may be able to use it. It might serve as a project location. It might be suitable for a man who takes risks.”
